Pulse Device: User Guide & Basic Troubleshooting
The Pulse device is a companion tool designed to support Wi-Fi analytics by pairing with your mobile application. This guide covers daily operations, status indicators, and common solutions for typical issues.
Device Overview
The Pulse device features a primary power/mode button, an RGB status LED, and a display screen to keep you informed of connection and battery status.
Hardware Layout
Button Functions
- Check Battery (Device Off): Short press (< 2 seconds). The screen will show the battery percentage sphere.
- Power ON/OFF: Medium press (approx. 2–5 seconds). A startup animation confirms the device is booting.
LED & Screen Status
- Green LED: Main CPU is powered ON.
- Startup:When you press button to start up first thing you see is white screen blink and then start up animation
Screen Icon Reference
| Icon | State | Meaning |
| ⚡ | Charging | USB-C power or PoE-Ethernet connected. |
| 🌡️🔥 | Overheat | Battery temperature too high, charging is paused until safe temperatures have been reached. |
| ❄️ | Cold | Battery temperature too low. harging is paused until safe temperatures have been reached. |
| ⚠️ | Error | Battery sensor failure. Contact support. |
🔍 Common Troubleshooting
The screen is black and won't turn on
- Check Battery: Short press the button. If no icon appears, the battery is likely flat. Charge via USB-C for at least 15 minutes, if the display still does not show battery level after button press, please use the reset button on the rear side of the device.
- Reboot: Perform a medium press (hold for 5 seconds) to toggle the power.
Connection Issues
"Connect the mobile device via USB": Ensure your USB-C cable is fully inserted on both ends. Use the short cable provided for the best reliability.
"Waiting for mobile device to connect": The hardware is linked, but the application is not communicating. Ensure the Speedtest Pulse app is open and active, on iOS devices check that the Ethernet device is visible on settings.
Battery & Temperature Warnings
- High Temperature (🌡️): If you see an overheat icon, stop charging immediately. Allow the device to cool in a shaded area.
- Low Temperature: Move the device to a warmer environment to resume charging.
Safety Notes
- Charging: We recommend using USB PD chargers with USB PD compatible cables .
- Supervision: Any device with li-ion battery should not be left to charge unattended, the same applies to Pulse.
